Dr Lau Kin-Wah, Kevin is the founder, chairman and managing director of Hanville Company Limited. He graduated from Lee Wai Lee Technical Institute in the 1980s and started his business out of a passion for watchmaking craftsmanship, later becoming a highly influential figure in the industry. Dr Lau has spared no effort in promoting industrial and commercial development and concurrently holds a number of important positions, including President of the Hong Kong Small and Medium Enterprises Development Institute, President Emeritus of The Professional Validation Council of Hong Kong Industries, Honorary President of the Hong Kong Watch Manufacturers Association, Honorary President of the Hong Kong General Chamber of Small and Medium Business, Adviser of the Hong Kong Brand Development Council, and Executive Committee Member of the Chinese Manufacturers’ Association of Hong Kong. Dr Lau attaches great importance to social responsibility. He is currently Chairman of the Vocational Training Council on Vocational Training Board for People with Disabilities, Vice-chairman of the Labour and Welfare Bureau’s Rehabilitation Advisory Committee, and Vice-chairman of the Home Affair Department’s Sham Shui Po Commercial & Industrial Liaison Committee. In these roles, he actively promotes employment and community integration for persons with disabilities, fostering social inclusion.
In the area of talent development, Dr Lau is a committed practitioner. He currently serves as Supervisor of CMA Choi Cheung Kok Secondary School, Governor of Technological and Higher Education Institute of Hong Kong, School Manager of Society of Boys' Centres Chak Yan Centre School and has been appointed Honorary Professor of the Rita Tong Liu School of Business and Hospitality Management of Saint Francis University. He is also Vice-Convenor of the Employees Retraining Board’s Business Services Industry Consultative Network, Industry Advisors of VTC Integrated Vocational Development Centre (Watch Industry), and has previously served as Specialist for the Hong Kong Council for Accreditation of Academic and Vocational Qualifications. Dr Lau has made significant contributions to the development of the creative industries. He once served as Vice-chairman of the Vetting Committee of the CreateSmart Initiative under the Culture, Sports and Tourism Bureau, helping to enhance the diversity and vitality of Hong Kong’s creative ecosystem. He is currently Chairperson of the Education Bureau’s Ad Hoc Committee on Applied Learning - Creative Studies, helping to integrate the creative industries into the secondary school curriculum.
In recognition of his contributions across different sectors of society, Dr Lau has received numerous awards and honours. In 2002, he was awarded the VTC 20th Anniversary Outstanding Alumnus Award; in 2004, he received the Young Industrialist Awards of Hong Kong; He was conferred an Honorary Fellowship 2013 by the VTC; in the same year, he was appointed a Justice of the Peace by the Hong Kong Government on 1 July; and in 2021, he was awarded the Medal of Honour.
Dr Lau is dedicated to creating employment and internship opportunities for students and people in need in Hong Kong. He firmly believes that through skills training, accumulation of experience and the realisation of individual potential, it is possible not only to empower individuals with upward mobility, but also to inject innovative momentum into Hong Kong’s industrial and commercial sectors. In doing so, he helps enhance Hong Kong’s overall competitiveness and lays a solid foundation for the city’s long-term prosperity and stability.
