Mr William Gee is a Chartered Accountant with nearly 40 years of international experience across the UK, Hong Kong, and Mainland China. Prior to his retirement, Mr Gee was a senior member of the Risk Assurance leadership team at PwC China and Hong Kong driving digital transformation and disruption. He has extensive experience advising governments and regulators on the implementation and governance of advance technologies, covering Public Key Infrastructure, data standards, digital identities, and blockchain technology.
Mr Gee is a specialist in emerging technology, and knowledgeable of distributed ledger technology and its application both in the emerging virtual assets sector as well as deployment in traditional industries. He is currently involved in a number of initiatives relating to the regulation and risk management of stablecoins and tokenisation of real-world assets, including the development of best practice standards for RWA tokenisation, and professional guidance relating to the assurance of stablecoin reserves.
Mr Gee is participating in efforts by the IESBA to address the ethical impact of emerging technologies, including A.I. and blockchain for the accounting profession, and is involved in various international initiatives relating to the adoption and implementation of identity infrastructure for both corporates and individuals to meet the needs of the emerging digital economy. He is also working to raise awareness of the Quantum Threat, and participating in pilots relating to the adoption of Post-Quantum Cryptography and transition planning to Post-Quantum Cryptography.
Mr Gee is a member of the Advisory Group on Entrepreneurship and Industry Engagement for the Education University of Hong Kong, and also hold the following positions:
