Mr Cheng King Leung, affectionately known as “Kingsir”, graduated from the Sir Robert Black College of Education in 1987, majoring in Physical Education and Chinese. He subsequently obtained a Bachelor of Education (First Class Honours) and a Master’s degree from the University of Hong Kong, and has made outstanding contributions to both the educational and sporting fields.

Upon completing his teacher training, Mr Cheng served at the prestigious century‑old Pui Ching Middle School in Hong Kong. He was Head of Physical Education for many years, during which he established a vibrant sports culture on campus and led the school teams to numerous championships in all Hong Kong interschool volleyball and beach volleyball competitions, as well as securing the overall co‑educational schools’ championship in the Bank of China Bauhinia Bowl Award. Beyond his sporting duties, he also acted as Coordinator of Information Technology Education, pioneering innovative practices in the sector. He was the project coordinator of the Inter-School Internet & Intranet Supporting Project (funded by the Quality Education Fund), guiding twenty local schools through a paradigm shift in information technology education with notable success. Owing to his solid teaching competence and extensive administrative experience, he was promoted to Vice‑Principal of Pui Ching Middle School, overseeing human resources and finance.

Mr Cheng received the Chief Executive’s Award for Teaching Excellence in 2007, and served as Chief Examiner for Physical Education at the Hong Kong Examinations and Assessment Authority. In September 2021, he was invited to establish the nation’s first school for Hong Kong children in the Greater Bay Area – the Guangzhou Affiliated School of JNU for Hong Kong & Macao Students – and successfully led the institution to obtain accreditation from the Hong Kong Council for Accreditation of Academic and Vocational Qualifications.

In the realm of sports, Mr Cheng has achieved extraordinary distinction. He was presented with a Commendation Certificate by the Secretary for Home Affairs in 2019. He has long served as coach of the Hong Kong beach volleyball representative team and is widely recognised as the “father of Hong Kong beach volleyball”. He has held numerous public offices, including Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Hong Kong Delegation to the 14th and 15th National Games of the People’s Republic of China; he currently serves as Chairman of the Hong Kong Elite Sports Affairs Committee and as a member of the Sports Commission. In July 2026, he was awarded the Medal of Honour by the HKSAR Government in recognition of his exceptional contributions to the development of elite sports in Hong Kong.
