Global competence is a multidimensional capacity. It empowers individuals to navigate an interconnected world by meaningfully engaging with diverse cultures and addressing global challenges. According to the OECD’s PISA 2018 Global Competence Framework, globally competent individuals are capable of examining local, global and intercultural issues, understanding and appreciating different perspectives and world views, interacting successfully and respectfully with others across cultures, and taking responsible action toward sustainability and collective well-being. These dimensions are supported by knowledge, skills, attitudes, and values that foster openness, respect, and a commitment to human dignity and diversity.
To cultivate these competencies, four strategic pillars, namely Global Literacy, Intercultural Intelligence, Ethical Awareness, and Collaborative Leadership, are proposed for the Honours College Curriculum. These pillars are advanced through diverse initiatives such as Student Outbound Exchange Programmes, Short-term Study Visits, Global Summer Programmes, and Academic Excellence Student Exchange Scholarships.

These programmes immerse students in diverse cultural and academic contexts, promoting global literacy by broadening their understanding of international issues. Students enhance intercultural intelligence through direct engagement with various communities, fostering effective communication and mutual respect. Ethical awareness is nurtured as students critically examine their values and the impact of their ethical decision-making, thereby deepening their self-awareness and personal growth. Collaborative leadership develops as students participate in meaningful interactions and joint activities with peers from diverse cultural backgrounds, building inclusive teamwork and leadership skills.
By integrating these pillars into the Honours College Curriculum, these experiences prepare the elite students of the Honours College to thrive in diverse contexts, equipping them to address global challenges thoughtfully and lead inclusively in an interconnected world.
